FABULOUS CHOICES FOR YOUR FINAL VIDEO

INSPIRATION
What inspires you? What does "inspiration" mean? Make a 2-5 minute video about what inspires you.

IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY
With your birthday (in it’s biggest, most inclusive sense) in mind, create a 2-5 minute video. What happened in the world the year you were born? The month? The day? The minute? How have you effected the world since you’ve been in it? Are there any parallels or intersections between your personal-private past and the public events, myths, politics of your lifetime?

REASON
Viktor Frankl survived Auschwitz in World War II. After the war he developed a psychoanalytical practice called "logotherapy." One of the questions he would ask his patients in an entirely earnest, non-cynical way was "Why don't you kill yourself?" He wanted his patients to think about what gave them joy, about what made them get up in the morning. What in your life makes you glad to be alive? Make a 2-5 minute video with this in mind.

PROPOSAL
Would you like to work on an idea you've been gnawing on? An idea that WON'T LET YOU SLEEP? Well, write up a short description/proposal (2 paragraphs or so) and show it to me.
PART A: STORY BOARD:::::::::::DUE ON THURSDAY APRIL 12...(2 points)
Many of you have seen this description before. A "storyboard" is used to sketch out your video/film with digital stills. Storyboards are useful for clarifying your ideas - letting you visualize what you're going to shoot, how you're going to edit the piece, etc., before you go out with a camera shooting willynilly. Storyboards also provide an efficient way to present your ideas to other people. Usually storyboards are printed out and mounted on boards for presentation. We'll keep them on the screen in the digital world. In Photoshop create a short "storyboard" of your piece.

TECHNICAL PARAMETERS:
Using the Photoshop template I sent you, create your storyboard. To illustrate your ideas feel free to use scanned drawings, scanned images, images from the web, illustrations, etc. Under each frame roughly describe what is happening in that section (video, audio, etc). Each page of your storyboard will have four frames. Your storyboard should have a minimum of 4 frames (one page) and a maximum of 8 frames (two pages). M

The final format of your storyboard should be a PDF file. Presentation counts. Use Photoshop. No hand-writing. No glued photos. No drawings on napkins.
PART B: ROUGH CUT:::::::::::DUE THURSDAY APRIL 24...(2 points)
Many of you have seen this description before. "Rough cuts" are presented with the idea of getting feedback/input on the project while it's still in progress. Rough cuts allow you to work out the flow of the editing, anticipate design/narrative/audio problems, and - if you have to - go out and shoot more.

TECHNICAL PARAMETERS:
Create a video rough cut of your final video. Be prepared to describe what you intend to alter, what is missing, and other options for your piece. It should be saved as a full quality DV quicktime movie.
PART C: DVD ROUGH CUT:::::::::::DUE TUESDAY APRIL 24...(2 points)
Using DVD Studio Pro make a rough, fully functioning DVD. The DVD should include all of your assignments (1-4 and your roughcut for 5). Work out the menu. Make sure it works. Test it on a DVD at home.
PART D & E: FINAL VIDEO + FINAL DVD:::::::::::DUE THURSDAY APRIL 26...(5 points + 5 points)
Parts D & E go hand in hand. Your 2-5 minute final video should be ready for viewing on the final DVD at the beginning of class. Your final DVD should include all 5 of your assignments.
