This schedule is a basic outline of what we will be covering when - it is subject to change at anytime and you are not recommended to miss any classes. The class blog will be used for regular updates.

Week 1
+ Introduction (syllabus, expectations, methodology)

Week 3
+ More complex CSS/XHTML - some examples to work from:
nesting styles, overflow in divs
+ A CSS test - make this layout
+ some simple javascript - opening/closing windows, show/hide divs.
+ Site mapping your hypertext
+ A brief history of the web
+ More examples of hypertext: Love or Lust, The Phone, Jody Zellen, Gregory Ulmer's Class (Ugly+Bad+Good, Shipwreck with a Spectator), My Boyfriend Came Back from the War
+ Basic image manipulation for the web (Photoshop/Imageready OR Fireworks) and file format optimization techniques

Week 4
+ critique - Project 1 hypertext
+ Project 2: Interacting with space, translating space
+ Flash Basics: animation and simple actionscript (to download .fla files, control-click and "save link")

+ Artist Presentations (5 minute presentations with 5-10 images that address the following questions: 1) What are the dominant themes addressed in the artist(s)' work 2) What would you consider the artist(s)' primary media (think beyond simple definitions of materials) 3) Who is the primary audience for the work.
Some of the artists will be easier to find documentation on, others will be more difficult. Do not use Wikipedia as a source, although it can be a starting point to find other source material. Where to look then? Of course a web search is a good place to start, but also check for information that will not show up on line, like the Art Journal Search via our library

Week 9
